Ingredients

  • 7 large Granny Smith Apples
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 TBSP lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 TBSP flour
  • Molasses
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 9-inch pie crust, baked

Instructions

  1. Prepare 1 pie crust as directed, set aside.
  2. Cut the other pie crust into thin slices for the lattice topping.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400 F.
  4. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin, uniform slices.
  5. In a large bowl, combine apples, white sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Ensure apples are fully coated.
  6. Spoon the filling into the pie crust and pan, avoiding excess liquid.
  7. Lattice the pie crust topping over the pie.
  8. Brush the surface of the pie with a beaten egg.
  9. Cover the edges of the crust with tin foil for the first 25 minutes at 400 F.
  10. Remove the tin foil, turn the oven down to 375 F, and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes.
  11. Cool for at least three hours and serve hot or cold.
